Our Story

A home built on a simple belief

Growing old should not mean growing invisible. That belief — held by founder Siva Sankar since 2012 — is the foundation of everything we do at Veera.

Siva Sankar

Mr. Siva Sankar founded Veera in 2012 after witnessing how institutional care stripped his grandmother of her dignity. He wanted to build something different — a place that felt like home.

"My grandmother spent her last years in a care home that was clean, well-staffed, and technically excellent. But she was lonely. Nobody called her by her name. The food was nutritionally balanced and completely tasteless. She wasn't a person there — she was a patient."

When it was time to build Veera, Siva had one question for every decision: Would my grandmother be treated with dignity here? Every answer had to be yes.

Fourteen years later, the answer is still yes. The hibiscus garden that residents tend every morning. The kitchen that makes dosai because Mrs. Padma likes dosai on Tuesdays. The doctor who remembers Mr. Rao's grandson's name. These aren't policies — they're habits, built into the way we work.

"A care home should smell like home cooking. It should sound like laughter. The people who live there should feel like they belong — not like guests in someone else's life."
Mr. Siva Sankar, Founder Veera Old Age Homes, since 2012

Three values that never change

Everything at Veera — from hiring decisions to daily menus — is filtered through these three commitments.

Dignity is non-negotiable

Every resident has a name. Every preference matters. We never refer to residents as "patients" or "cases." We knock before entering rooms. We ask before helping with personal care. We respect the small autonomies that make a person feel human.

Our caregivers are trained not just in clinical skills, but in communication — how to speak to an elderly person with respect, how to offer help without diminishing someone's independence.

Family is real here

We mean this in two ways. First: our residents become family to each other. The friendships formed at Veera are genuine — people who look out for one another, share meals together, celebrate festivals as a community.

Second: your family is always welcome. There are no restricted visiting hours. Come for chai at 7am. Stay for dinner. Call at midnight if you're worried. We don't manage access — we invite you in.

Health is the foundation

Dignity requires health. A person who is in constant pain, or who has uncontrolled diabetes, or who hasn't stood up in a week — that person cannot live with dignity. Medical care isn't a service we provide alongside the main offering. It is the foundation on which everything else is built.

That's why we have 24/7 nurses, three doctor visits per week, daily physiotherapy, and hospital partnerships within 6 kilometres. We invest heavily in health — because without it, dignity is an aspiration, not a reality.

The faces behind Veera

Our staff are not employees — they are family. Many have been with us since the beginning.
